Does OnlyFans delete your ID after verification? What happens to your data when you close an account

Verification is not one document. Its privacy policy describes an onboarding process that, before you can open a creator account, asks you to provide creator user data, checks your country of residence, collects financial data so payouts can reach you and as an anti-fraud measure, puts you through a third-party age and identity verification process, and checks that you have not previously been banned.

The policy also lists which of those items it classes as sensitive information under privacy law. The list is worth reading slowly, because it is longer than most creators assume:

• username and password;
• social security number, driver's licence number, and passport number;
• government identifiers;
• partial payment card number and the name registered with your payment card;
• face recognition data, which it describes as biometric information collected and processed by its third-party providers.

That last one matters more than the rest, because it is not held only by OnlyFans. Age and identity checks are run by outside vendors, so a copy of the check exists in a company you never chose and cannot see. This is normal across the industry and it is how anyone can be confident that a performer is over 18, but it does mean "will OnlyFans delete my ID" is only half the question. The other half is what the vendor keeps.

The retention section of the policy does not give one number. It gives four rules, and the one that catches creators is the third:

• Providing the service: data needed to run your account is kept for the lifetime of that account.
• Trust and safety: if you have breached the terms, or are suspected of it, records are kept for as long as needed to investigate, assist law enforcement or non-governmental authorities, and enforce the removal.
• Legal and regulatory compliance: identity record-keeping and financial or tax reporting requirements, which the policy states is up to 7 years in some cases. It also covers preservation orders and warrants.
• Legal claims: kept in line with the statutory limitation period, and longer if there is live litigation.

Seven years is not arbitrary and it is not OnlyFans being difficult. It tracks the record-keeping and tax-reporting periods that apply to a business paying people money, and to a platform that has to be able to prove who was in the content it published. Any adult platform doing verification properly sits in the same position, this one included. What the policy makes clear is that closing your account does not reset that clock.

It ends your access and your public presence. The help center states that once an account is deleted it cannot be restored and that you would need to apply for a new creator account, and the terms add that after termination you will not be able to access your content. Those are real consequences and they happen immediately.

What deletion does not do is trigger an automatic erasure of everything held about you. The privacy policy treats deletion of your account and deletion of your personal data as separate requests with separate rules, which is why creators are surprised to find records still exist months later. If your reason for leaving was privacy rather than the platform, plan for both steps rather than assuming the first one covers the second. The policy gives you the right to withdraw consent, to access a copy of your data, to correct it, to request deletion or erasure, to restrict processing and to have some of it transferred elsewhere. Requests go through a ticket in your account or to [email protected], and OnlyFans says it has appointed a Data Protection Officer and an EU representative.

Two practical points decide whether a request works. First, it must contain enough information for them to confirm your identity and understand what you are asking for, and they may ask for extra personal data to verify you, which feels backwards but is standard. A request sent from an email address they cannot tie to an account tends to go nowhere. Second, if someone is submitting it for you, they will want proof of authority such as a signed authorisation or power of attorney.

Then be realistic about the answer. The policy says outright that it may not always be able to comply with a deletion request for specific legal reasons, and gives the example of an account deactivated for violating the terms. Expect a partial outcome: marketing and technical data go, identity and financial records stay for their retention period. It is also worth knowing why these take weeks rather than minutes. Answering one properly means finding every copy of a person's data scattered across a company's own systems, backups and vendors, which is enough of a job that there is software built purely to locate where one person's records live inside a business. The delay is usually search, not stonewalling.

The policy carries a set of additional US state disclosures, and two of them are useful to know before you write to anyone.

You have the right not to receive retaliatory or discriminatory treatment for exercising a privacy right, and depending on your state, the right to appeal a decision made about your privacy request. So a refusal is not automatically the end of it. Appeal in writing, name the specific right you exercised, and keep the correspondence.

The policy also states that OnlyFans does not sell or share personal data for targeted advertising, and does not sell or share sensitive information for that purpose. For a creator whose legal name sits in a verification file, that commitment is arguably more valuable than the deletion question, because the realistic risk was never a leaked ID scan. Every legitimate adult platform will ask for a government ID, and any that does not is a red flag rather than a privacy feature: no verification means no way to know who is in the content, which is how non-consensual and underage material gets in. The question worth asking is not whether they verify, it is whether they say clearly what happens next.

1. Who runs the check. If a third-party vendor holds the biometric data, that vendor is part of your privacy exposure.
2. What the published retention period is. A specific number, in writing, beats a vague promise to delete on request.
3. Whether your legal name is ever public. Verification requires it. Publishing it does not. On OnlyFucks, as with the major platforms, your legal name stays in the records and your stage name is what fans see.
4. What happens to the records if the company is sold. Data is an asset in an acquisition, and creator files go with it.
